Job summary

New York City Bar Association is seeking a Controller to oversee daily accounting and finance operations for the City Bar and City Bar Fund. You will supervise four staff, manage cash flow, and ensure GAAP-compliant financial reporting.

The role reports to the CFO and offers a hybrid schedule in Midtown Manhattan. Candidates should have nonprofit accounting experience and CPA preferred, with a salary range about $130k–$140k per year.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred.
• 8-12 years of progressive accounting experience, incl. 3-5 years in management.
• At least 5 years nonprofit accounting experience.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP.
• Fund accounting, budgeting, and audits experience.
• Experience with NetSuite and advanced Excel.
• Experience as Controller or similar leadership role preferred.
• Familiarity with AVID Pay and ADP WorkForce Now is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and mentor a team of four accounting staff.
• Oversee daily cash management and cash flow logs.
• Maintain the general ledger per U.S. GAAP.
• Review journal entries, reclassifications, and reconciliations.
• Lead monthly close and prepare financial statements.
• Coordinate year-end close and ERP roll-forward.
• Support audits and tax filings (Forms 990, 1120, CT-13).
• Assist CFO with financial analysis and special projects.
