Job summary

Pela Case Corporation is seeking an experienced Controller to oversee the company’s financial health, cash flow, and operational costs. The role involves leading accounting operations, ensuring strong internal controls, and partnering with leaders to improve budgeting and forecasting.

You will drive monthly close, analyze variances, and translate financial results into actionable insights for the executive team, with flexibility on hours for a part-time or fractional arrangement.

Qualifications

• CPA designation is required.
• Experience as a Controller or similar role in a physical product, ecommerce or retail environment.
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting and variance analysis.
• Proficient in Netsuite or similar ERP and comfortable with financial software systems.
• Desire to drive projects forward.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail.
• Strong leadership abilities with the ability to inspire and motivate a small team.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of collaborating across diverse teams.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a strong financial foundation with clear visibility into the business's financial health.
• Oversee day-to-day accounting operations: AP, AR, GL, cash management and the use of accounting systems.
• Strengthen financial policies, processes and internal controls.
• Monitor cash flow, working capital, expenses and commitments, flagging risks early.
• Partner with department leaders to improve budgeting accountability and understand impact of decisions on the bottom line.
• Identify opportunities to simplify processes and reduce costs.
• Deliver accurate monthly financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow).
• Own the monthly close process and related reconciliations and schedules.
• Analyze revenue, margins, expenses and balance sheet movements; identify variances and trends.
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax and reporting obligations.
• Coordinate with external accountants and auditors for audits and year-end.
• Maintain forecasts of cash needs and financial risks for leadership.
• Support annual budgeting and compare actuals to forecast.
• Translate financial results into actionable insights for leadership.
• Identify margins improvements and cost-control opportunities.
