The fire department is seeking an experienced full-time financial clerk to coordinate the department’s financial activities. Mount Laurel Fire District #1 has 70 employees and operates with a $19M budget in 2026. The district is overseen by a five-member board of fire commissioners. Reporting to the Chief of Department, the financial clerk’s responsibilities will include the following tasks: accounts payable and receivable; bank reconciliations; payroll (currently using Paychex, switching to Edmunds in 2027), and pension and benefits administration. The department would like to grow the role into a business manager position with additional responsibilities working with the Joint Insurance Fund, NJ Civil Service, and procurement responsibilities as they match a candidate’s skill set. An ideal candidate has a background in local governmental accounting; knowledge of the budget process; coordinating the general ledger; working with auditors; and accounts payable and receivable. We strongly prefer a candidate with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. Previous experience in New Jersey local government finance; and a candidate with expert knowledge of Edmunds and Excel is desired. Starting salary range is $85,000-$115,000. Candidates with a valid and current CMFO or QPA will be eligible for higher compensation.
