Job summary

Kent Companies in Grand Rapids, MI seeks a Director of Finance & Accounting to lead the company’s accounting and financial operations, reporting to the CFO and executive team. The role drives budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, internal controls, and strategic financial leadership across multiple divisions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, business administration, or a related field.
• CPA, CCIFP, CMA, or other relevant professional certification.
• 8 to 10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
• Experience in the construction industry, preferably with a multi-division or multi-entity contractor.
• Strong knowledge of construction accounting, financial reporting, job costing, and percentage-of-completion accounting.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to workplace(s).
• Ability to pass background check related to driving and drug screening.
• Must be able to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now and in the future.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and oversight of accounting and finance activities across the organization.
• Partner with the CFO and executive leadership in developing and executing the company’s financial strategy.
• Establish and maintain consistent accounting policies, procedures, and financial controls throughout the organization.
• Promote financial accountability throughout the organization.
• Ensure financial statements are accurate, complete, timely, and in accordance with applicable accounting standards.
• Establish and monitor accounting policies and procedures in accordance with GAAP.
• Identify financial risks, trends, and opportunities and provide recommendations to executive leadership.
• Prepare financial analysis and reporting for the CFO, executive leadership, shareholders, and other stakeholders.
• Develop annual budgeting and forecasting processes; monitor results and analyze trends for leadership.
• Review monthly WIP schedules and issue percentage-of-completion analyses; flag significant changes to gross margin.
• Monitor cash flow, working capital requirements, AR/AP; prepare cash flow forecast and seek opportunities to improve capital efficiency.
• Assist with banking relationships, credit facilities, liquidity, and coordination with auditors, tax advisors, banks, and insurers.
• Support annual financial audits and tax return preparation; ensure compliance with accounting, tax, and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain documentation for audit and tax requirements and assist with bonding/reporting as needed.
• Lead, mentor, and develop accounting and finance team members; foster collaboration across divisions and operations.
• Provide training on construction accounting, job cost, WIP, and financial reporting to the organization.
