Job summary

ECS Group of Companies is seeking a Specialty Technician I to join our Savannah, GA team. This role focuses on field-based destructive and non-destructive testing, inspections of structural steel, welds, and related observations, under guidance from senior staff.

You will develop technical competency in specialty testing methods, maintain strong customer service, and support project teams with reporting and documentation.

Qualifications

• 2 years of related experience.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Obtain two specialty certifications applicable to the work performed as per policy.
• General industry OSHA 10 may be required.
• Valid driver's license if driving for ECS subsidiary.
• Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
• Dependable, self-motivated, and detail-oriented.
• Limited knowledge of destructive and non-destructive testing methods.
• Good understanding of construction practices and jobsite operations.
• Ability to work independently under direction and as part of a team.
• Proficiency with electronic devices and field reporting systems.
• Basic math and data documentation skills.
• Ability to interpret plans, specifications, and instructions.
• Ability to calibrate NDT equipment (where applicable).
• Must safely operate a motor vehicle and follow laws and policies.

Responsibilities

• Performs destructive and non-destructive testing on construction materials.
• Inspects structural steel, reinforcing steel, and connections (welded and bolted).
• Performs field observations and collects samples for testing.
• Documents findings in line with engineering and inspection standards.
• Communicates daily with contractors, technicians, and project managers.
• Reports changes in site conditions and additional testing needs.
• Performs inspections in fabrication facilities when required.
• Prepares and submits daily field reports and documentation.
• Performs basic calculations and data reduction tasks.
• Maintains and organizes field testing equipment.
• Notifies supervisors of damaged or missing equipment.
• Attends project meetings as requested.
• Performs other specialty testing and inspection duties as assigned.
