Job summary

The City of Norfolk's Department of Utilities is seeking an Engineering Technician I, Utility Locator in our Field Engineering Division. The role locates and marks underground utilities, manages location request records, and assists with drafting, GIS tasks, and related clerical duties.

The ideal candidate will read construction drawings, distinguish utilities, and maintain logs while complying with safety and scheduling requirements.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Six months in drafting, GIS, sub-professional engineering, or related field.
• Experience locating and/or working with underground utilities.
• Valid driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Locate underground utilities by marking lines and mains with locating equipment.
• Manage utility location request records and log data.
• Read and interpret construction drawings.
• Perform clerical duties and coordinate with the team.
• Possess ability to bend, push, pull, lift, and carry up to 50 pounds in field conditions.
