Job summary

Benchmark is recruiting a water and sewer technician in Virginia Beach, VA. Use mechanical/technical equipment to accurately locate underground facilities such as electrical power lines, and fiber optic lines.

You will provide locate services for a single contractor along the I-64 corridor. Daily communication with client managers and excavation crews is required to discuss locate issues, read maps/blueprints for accurate utility placement, and determine efficient routes across rural and urban

Qualifications

• Willingness to learn; instructor-led training for locator certification.
• Valid driver’s license with clean record.
• Ability to work outdoors and drive locally.
• On-call availability and ability to work irregular hours.
• Ability to lift at least 50 pounds.
• Ability to walk up to 5 miles per day.
• Basic computer use for documentation and email.

Responsibilities

• Use equipment to locate underground facilities such as electrical lines.
• Provide locate services for contractors along the I-64 corridor.
• Communicate with client managers and excavation crews daily.
• Interpret job orders and maps to position utilities.
• Read maps and blueprints to locate utilities.
• Perform locate duties before or after normal business hours when on-call.
