Job summary

Isle of Wight County seeks a Utilities Inspector to ensure piping systems and utilities comply with County Specifications. The role focuses on field inspections of water/sewer/storm water projects and related site work, with detailed coordination with developers and contractors.

The candidate will perform inspections, provide input on inspection results, and interact with the public and stakeholders. 85% field work and 15% administrative duties, reporting to the Utilities Director.

Qualifications

• Requires field inspection experience and ability to coordinate with county Utilities Operations.
• Candidates should have strong communication and judgment for public interactions.
• Licenses and certifications may be obtained post-employment per Virginia requirements.

Responsibilities

• Perform site inspections of new construction, roadways, and utility line renovations.
• Review submissions and provide comments to developers, contractors, and property owners.
• Initiate and respond to information requests from contractors, homeowners, officials and the public.
• Support Construction Manager with site inspections of capital projects.
• Assist with routine correspondence, reports, and documentation.
