Isle of Wight County seeks a Utilities Inspector to ensure piping systems and utilities comply with County Specifications. The role focuses on field inspections of water/sewer/storm water projects and related site work, with detailed coordination with developers and contractors.
The candidate will perform inspections, provide input on inspection results, and interact with the public and stakeholders. 85% field work and 15% administrative duties, reporting to the Utilities Director.
The purpose of this job is to ensure that piping systems and utilities of new developments and renovations are in compliance with County Specifications. Duties and responsibilities include project management, providing information; performing inspections; and providing input concerning inspection results. Employee must exercise considerable initiative and independent judgement in all phases of work. Employee must also exercise tact, courtesy and firmness in frequent contact with property owners, developers, contractors and the general public. This position is 85% field work and 15% administrative work. Reports to the Utilities Director.
Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Requires the use of fingers, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, talking, visual acuity, and walking.

While some will perform their regular duties, others may be assigned to report at a different time and location and to perform different duties from their regular jobs. Employees will either be deemed essential personnel and provide services that must continue regardless of or pursuant to a state of emergency or will be deemed nonessential personnel that will be required to report to work in an emergency if they receive an assignment to shelter duty or other duty. This position is benefits eligible.
