Job summary

National Underground Group's Benchmark division is seeking a Locate Technician to join a full-time team in Crozet, VA. You will use mechanical/technical equipment to locate underground utilities, read maps/blueprints, and coordinate with managers, excavation crews, and homeowners to resolve locate issues.

Requirements include willingness to learn with instructor-led certification, a valid driver's license, ability to lift 50 pounds, and stamina for walking several miles in varying weather.

Qualifications

• Willingness to learn – Instructor led training is required to receive locator certification.
• Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
• Ability to operate independently and work outdoors.
• Ability to perform locate duties when on call outside normal hours.
• Ability to lift, push, and pull at least 50 pounds.
• Walk up to 5 miles in one day, several times a week.

Responsibilities

• Use mechanical/technical equipment to locate underground facilities such as telephone, power, cable, gas, fiber, water, and sewer lines.
• Communicate daily with managers, excavation crews, and homeowners to discuss locate issues.
• Interpret job order tickets to ensure customer satisfaction.
• Read maps and blueprints to accurately locate utilities.
• Determine efficient route to each locate in rural and urban areas.
• Remove and replace manhole lids.
