Job summary

Benchmark, a division of National Underground Group, is hiring a Locate Technician. You will locate underground utilities using specialized equipment, read maps and blueprints, and plan efficient routes in diverse environments.

You may be required to work on-call after hours. Benchmark offers training to certification, competitive benefits, and opportunities for advancement within a safety‑driven team.

Qualifications

• Willingness to learn and receive locator certification.
• Ability to drive local roads, work outdoors, and operate independently.
• Ability to perform locate duties on-call after normal hours.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
• Ability to access restricted and/or controlled areas (e.g., federal sites).
• Excellent communication skills and strong work ethic.
• Ability to use computer to complete documentation and email.

Responsibilities

• Use mechanical/technical equipment to locate underground facilities.
• Communicate with managers, excavation crews, and homeowners daily.
• Interpret job order tickets and respond to ensure customer satisfaction.
• Read maps and blueprints to locate utilities.
• Determine efficient route to each locate in rural and urban areas.
• Remove and replace manhole lids.
