Job summary

Santa Fe County seeks an experienced position to review, issue, and inspect road cut permits in accordance with the MUTCD. The role coordinates with agencies, updates regulations, and maintains permit logs across County road projects.

Responsibilities include field inspections for backfill, asphalt restoration and safety, gathering GPS data, and assisting with data analyses. Requires OSHA/First Aid certs, a NM Class D license, and relevant traffic certifications.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent plus three (3) years of work experience in traffic principles and practices, highway construction engineering or design or related field.
• Obtain and maintain ATSSA Traffic Control Supervisor, IMSA Work Zone Control Technician and Signs and Markings Level I and II certifications within six (6) months of the date of hire.
• Must possess and maintain OSHA and First Aid, CPR and AED certifications or obtain within six (6) months of hire (training provided by Santa Fe County).
• Must possess a valid New Mexico Class D driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Reviews, issues utility road cut permits; reviews all excavation/restoration permits for technical accuracy.
• Maintains daily log of permits; conducts field inspections to verify compaction and patching of asphalt on road cuts.
• Coordinates with outside agencies or firms to obtain information and updates regulations regarding permits.
• Responds to public questions and assists with summary reports on data and information items.
• Maintains contractor files and inputs GPS data for traffic devices (signs, pavement markings, lighting).
• Meets with contractors or public for pre/post construction meetings; drafts policies for records management.
