Job summary

Santa Fe County in New Mexico is seeking a Sign Technician to install, inspect and repair traffic signs per MUTCD. The role requires precise sign fabrication, layout and installation, plus inventory management of materials and equipment in a shop and outdoor setting.

Responsibilities include operating fabrication tools, installing sign poles, inspecting visibility and collecting GPS data for traffic devices.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent plus any combination of formal training or experience in construction or a related technical field totaling one (1) year.
• Obtain and maintain ATSSA Traffic Control Supervisor Certification within six (6) months of date of hire.
• Obtain and maintain IMSA Work Zone Traffic Control Technician and Signs and Markings Level I certification within one (1) year of date of hire.
• Must possess and maintain OSHA and First Aid, CPR and AED certifications or obtain within six (6) months of hire (training provided by Santa Fe County).
• Must possess a valid New Mexico Class D driver’s license and be able to drive county vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Designs, cuts, lays out and installs signs per MUTCD guidelines.
• Orders, inventories, purchases and maintains inventory of materials and equipment.
• Operates fabrication machine and tools; installs sign poles; ensures safe operation.
• Inspects signs and road markings for visibility; maintains crosswalks and markings.
• Collects GPS data of traffic devices and inputs into the system.
• Assists traffic staff with field investigations, studies and inspections.
• Follows safety protocols and promotes workplace safety and environmental practices.
• Performs other duties as directed or assigned.
