Job summary

Santa Fe County NM is seeking a skilled Traffic Signs Technician to design, fabricate, and install traffic signs in accordance with MUTCD. You will prepare surfaces, lay out signs, and install poles while coordinating with field teams and maintaining inventory.

Regular GPS data input and collaboration on traffic studies are part of the role. The candidate should have a HS diploma plus related construction training, certifications in traffic control, and a NM Class D license.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent plus training/experience in construction or related field totaling 1 year
• ATSSA Traffic Control Supervisor Certification within 6 months of hire
• IMSA Work Zone Traffic Control Technician and Signs and Markings Level I within 1 year of hire
• OSHA and First Aid/CPR/AED certifications or to obtain within 6 months (training provided)
• Valid New Mexico Class D driver’s license (may drive County vehicle)

Responsibilities

• Designs, cuts, lays out and installs signs per MUTCD guidelines.
• Orders, inventories, purchases and maintains inventory of materials/equipment.
• Operates fabrication machine and power tools; installs sign poles and ensures safety of equipment.
• Inspects signs and markings for visibility; maintains paving markings.
• Collects GPS data of traffic devices and inputs data.
• Assists other traffic staff with field investigations and inspections.
• Follows safety protocols and promotes workplace safety.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
