Job summary

Atoms is hiring a seasoned Vehicle Test Engineer to advance the testing of autonomous/ADAS systems at our San Francisco proving grounds. You will design, run, and validate complex scenario tests on public roads with safety drivers, manage risk, and document outcomes for safety cases.

You will work with instrumented targets, RTK GNSS ground truth, and data acquisition, then analyze results with Python and AI-assisted tooling to ensure rigorous, defensible conclusions.

Qualifications

• 5+ years hands-on vehicle test engineering, ADAS or AV testing, proving ground operations, or OEM and Tier 1 vehicle test.
• Hands-on with instrumented targets, driving robots, and data acquisition systems.
• Experience executing published test procedures and adapting them for non-human-driven scenarios.
• Rigour about validity: reject out-of-tolerance runs and document reasons.
• Data ability in Python or similar; analyze and defend results.
• Comfort using AI tooling to automate procedure drafting, validity checks, and reports.
• Clear written communication; reports must be usable by others.
• Willingness to travel to proving grounds and test routes regularly.

Responsibilities

• Plan and run scenario cases at proving grounds, defining test procedures and tolerance bands.
• Run scenario cases on public roads with safety drivers, ensuring proper recording and evidence collection.
• Own the risk assessment for testing: site layout, safety zones, weather limits.
• Own instrumentation and ground truth: ego and target positioning, timing, data capture.
• Set tolerance bands and determine required valid runs, recording reasons for rejections.
• Write test reports for safety-case engineers detailing what was run and outcomes.
• Manage proving ground scheduling, equipment calibration, and third-party test services.
• Report non-testable aspects and necessary adaptations or venue constraints.
• Use AI tools to draft procedures, validate runs, and generate reports.
