Job summary

Astound is hiring an Outside Plant Technician I in Massachusetts to detect, troubleshoot and restore outages for data, video, and voice services. You will handle emergency restoration of coax and fiber, perform preventative maintenance, and install/repair cabling both aerial and underground while documenting work orders and logs.

The role requires 2+ years in telecom field work, a valid driver's license, strong customer service, and the ability to read maps; on-call shifts are included in a 24/7

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
• 2+ years of hands-on telecom field work, cabling, construction, or utilities (coax, fiber, or electrical).
• Maintain satisfactory driving record and have a valid driver's license.
• Customer Service.

Responsibilities

• Detect, troubleshoot and resolve system outages in aerial and/or underground capacities related to transmission levels, signal losses and off-air interference.
• Prepare and perform emergency aerial and/or underground coaxial cable restoration due to variables such as cable breaks and/or damage.
• Perform preventative maintenance (power supply, actives) in the form of testing, balancing, alignment and adjustments of components or equipment.
• Monitor, record and repair cable leakage, complying with applicable regulations.
• Observe and assist co-workers with fiber splicing activities.
• Complete and distribute required documentation, such as work orders and daily logs.
• Install, replace, and repair coaxial and fiber optic cabling, including aerial and buried plant.
• Perform pole transfers, span replacements, and drop repairs.
• Operate bucket trucks, ladders, and field equipment.
