Job summary

South Western Communications in Overland Park, Kansas, is seeking a Technician 1 to install, troubleshoot and maintain electronic communication systems including VOIP, SIP, data networks, fire alarm and CCTV. The role requires a two-year electronics background with 1+ years of related experience and involves on-site work, on-call duties, and customer training.

The position is full-time, hourly, non-exempt with a full benefits package, including 401k.

Qualifications

• A two-year electronics degree or equivalent combination of education and 1+ years related field experience is required.
• Knowledge and experience in the procedures, installation, testing and troubleshooting of equipment/systems.
• Experience with VoIP, telephony, data networks, wireless data, fire alarm, CCTV, sound systems, or nurse call applications preferred. Cisco and Microsoft certifications desirable.
• Ability to install a project from engineering documents with minimal assistance.
• Ability to manage small to large projects with little supervision.

Responsibilities

• Final hookup and programming of electronics equipment for new jobs.
• Responds to customer's service-related issues promptly.
• Tests and documents readings for customer's systems.
• Updates customer files.
• Troubleshoots and repairs electronic components.
• Handling on-call duties on a regular scheduled basis.
• Trains and instructs the customer on the proper use of the equipment.
• Reading and interpreting wiring diagrams, schematics, and blueprints.
• Operation of test equipment: Volt Meter, Ohm Meter, Oscilloscope, Spectrum Analyzer, Multi-meter, and Impedance Meter.
• Assists with preventive maintenance of customer equipment.
• Accurate tracking on time sheets, service/installation tickets and inventory items, photographs of progress.
• Ensures spare parts, manuals & keys safeguarded and signed for at end of project.
• Manages and motivates the Technicians and serves as onsite SWC representative when the Project Manager is not available.
• Full compliance with company's and customer's safety program.
• Other duties as required or assigned by company management.
