Job summary

UES, Inc. is seeking an entry-level Field Technician I to join our Raleigh-area team.

You will work with engineers, scientists, geologists, and technicians on construction and infrastructure projects, receiving on-the-job training and pursuing industry certifications. Ideal candidates hold an associate or bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, geology, construction management, or environmental science, and are ready to work outdoors with varying conditions.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational training or coursework in construction, engineering, geology, or a related field is a plus.
• 0-3 years of experience in a field-based, outdoor, or physically demanding role preferred (construction, materials testing, geotechnical, or related industry experience is a plus).
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record; ability to operate company‑assigned vehicles safely.
• Industry certifications such as ACI Level 1 Concrete Testing, or ability to obtain within a specified time period.
• Commitment to workplace safety, following OSHA standards and company safety policies, including the proper use of PPE.
• Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Field Data Collection (FDC) software or similar industry tools.

Responsibilities

• Perform field and laboratory testing on soil, concrete, asphalt, aggregate, and other construction materials.
• Help verify that projects meet engineering specifications and quality standards.
• Collect samples and document field observations and test results.
• Use testing equipment and technology to solve challenges in real time.
• Communicate with project managers, contractors, and field teams.
• Learn from experienced professionals and participate in ongoing technical training.
