Job summary

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is seeking a Survey Technician to support engineering and transportation projects. You will gather field data, operate surveying instruments, and process information to guide design and construction decisions.

Responsibilities include field measurement, data recording, equipment handling, digital processing, and safety practices. Telework may be available part-time with certain conditions; full-time schedule is 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday

Qualifications

One year of experience as an Engineering Technician, or three years as a survey corps with duties operating surveying instruments.
One year of experience as a member of a survey corps with duties operating surveying instruments and an associate's degree in surveying, drafting, design, civil or engineering technology.

Responsibilities

Field Measurement: Collect precise data using conventional, electronic, and GPS surveying tools.
Data Recording: Document traverse points, topography points, cross sections, and control references.
Equipment Handling: Operate, maintain, and care for surveying tools while clearing sight paths and driving stakes.
Digital Processing: Upload and download survey data using computer programs to prepare reports and plans.
Survey Support: Assist the supervisor with field notes, sketches, and complex mathematical reviews.
Safety Practices: Flag traffic and follow safe work procedures to protect the survey team.
