Qualifications

• One year of experience as an Engineering Technician or three years as a member of a survey corps with duties operating standard and electronic surveying instruments.
• One year of experience as a member of a survey corps which included duties operating both standard and electronic surveying instruments, and an associate's degree in surveying, drafting, design, civil or any other appropriate field of engineering technology.
• Possession of a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license.
• PA residency requirement and ability to perform essential job functions.

The Survey Technician position with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) gives you the chance to support major engineering and transportation work. You will help gather field data that guides design, construction, and maintenance decisions. This role introduces you to modern surveying tools while strengthening your technical skills.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This role focuses on gathering accurate survey data that supports engineering, maintenance, and construction projects. You will use advanced tools and work with your team to collect and process essential field information. As a Survey Technician, you will perform the following duties:

• Field Measurement: Collect precise data using conventional, electronic, and GPS surveying tools
• Data Recording: Document traverse points, topography points, cross sections, and control references
• Equipment Handling: Operate, maintain, and care for surveying tools while clearing sight paths and driving stakes
• Digital Processing: Upload and download survey data using computer programs to prepare reports and plans

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Hollidaysburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $46,827.00 (before taxes).

Required Experience, Training & Eligibility

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• One year of experience as an Engineering Technician ( Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration) ; or
• Three years of experience as a member of a survey corps which included duties operating both standard and electronic surveying instruments; or
• One year of experience as a member of a survey corps which included duties operating both standard and electronic surveying instruments, and an associate's degree in surveying, drafting, design, civil or any other appropriate field of engineering technology.

Condition of Employment:

• This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license.
