Job summary

A.I.S., Inc. (AIS) is seeking Survey Technicians to support a five-month field study on the Kenai Peninsula, from May 11 through September 27, 2026.

The role involves conducting recreational use surveys of visitors to state and national parks, traveling by personal vehicle, administering paper surveys, recording responses, and submitting completed forms with weekly mileage logs. This is part-time, temporary work with travel along the Kenai Peninsula.

Qualifications

  • Must demonstrate organizational skills with the ability to maintain records and submit forms and reports on time.
  • Ability to work independently in remote outdoor settings.
  • Able to walk, stand, and remain outdoors for extended periods.
  • Valid driver’s license, clean driving record and auto insurance policy that meets state limits.
  • Reliable vehicle and mobile phone.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to engage the public.
  • Ability and willingness to work all weekends throughout the survey period.

Responsibilities

  • Attend all training sessions and complete requirements prior to surveys.
  • Arrive prepared for each survey assignment with required materials and supplies.
  • Conduct surveys in accordance with the approved instrument and protocols.
  • Send required SMS messages at arrival, start/end of sessions, and return home.
  • Interact professionally with recreators and the public.
  • Complete survey forms legibly, accurately, and per instructions.
  • Photograph completed forms and transmit images as instructed.
  • Be responsive to clarifications or corrections related to submitted forms.
  • Organize all completed forms in chronological order and maintain them.
  • Deliver completed forms to designated personnel by deadlines.
  • Maintain mileage logs and submit weekly for reimbursement.
  • Accurately record and report all hours worked.
  • Work independently in remote locations and follow safety practices.
  • Comply with all project requirements, safety guidelines, and protocols.
