Job summary

SAM is seeking a field surveying assistant to support boundary, topographic, and construction layout surveys in the Baton Rouge area. You will work under a Crew Chief, operate surveying instruments, and collect geospatial data for processing.

The role requires outdoor work year-round, a valid driver’s license, and a willingness to travel as needed. Training and safety programs are provided to grow skills in land surveying practices.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid, current driver’s license required.
  • One year industry experience in land surveying.
  • Basic knowledge of land surveying practices and field operations.
  • Able to work outdoors year-round in all weather conditions.
  • Willingness to travel and stay out of town as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Support field crews by using land survey instruments for boundary, topographic, and construction layout surveys.
  • Assist under supervision of a Crew Chief; report progress and resolve issues.
  • Operate equipment like robotic total stations, GNSS receivers, and 3D laser scanners.
  • Collect geospatial data and perform survey computations with software.
  • Read maps and plans; maintain neat field notes with precise measurements.
  • Load/unload equipment, keep tools and vehicle clean, follow safety procedures.
