Job summary

Timmons Group in Staunton, VA is seeking a Survey Instrument Operator to support the Survey Group. You will assist land surveyors by collecting boundary, location, topographic, and design survey data using robotic total stations, GPS receivers, level, and data collectors.

You will set points on construction stakeout projects, maintain equipment, and document measurements of horizontal and vertical control. Travel may be required; lifting up to 50 pounds and a valid driver's license are required.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions.
• Ability to read survey and engineering drawings.
• Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as trigonometry and geometry.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for routine and non-routine surveying tasks.
• Ability to work independently as well as in a team with good time management.
• Current state driver's license and ability to drive a vehicle.
• Physical demands include carrying up to 50 lb of equipment over varied terrain.

Responsibilities

• Collect data for boundaries, location, topographical, and design surveys.
• Operate robotic total station, level, GPS receivers, and data collectors.
• Set points on construction stakeout projects (curb, gutter, inlets, sewers, waterlines, bridges).
• Conduct daily maintenance and upkeep of instruments.
• Sketch and record measurements to locate horizontal and vertical control points.
• Assist in maintenance of survey equipment, supplies, and vehicle.
• Travel may be required.
