Job summary

1803electric seeks a Substation Technician to operate, install, test, checkout and maintain substation equipment on the 1803 system. You will work safely, adhering to all rules and guidelines.

The role involves hands-on maintenance of circuit breakers, transformers, and related gear across multiple sites, with travel to regional and national destinations and coordination of contractors as needed.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Electronic Technology or equivalent; education can be substituted with suitable work experience.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Ability to travel overnight to regional and national destinations.

Responsibilities

• Maintains substation equipment such as circuit breakers, transformers, voltage regulators, reclosers, mobile substations, load tap changers, station batteries and chargers, capacitor banks, circuit switchers, motor operators, and related equipment.
• Installs, tests, and checks out new substation equipment.
• Performs routine inspections of substations and capacitor banks.
• Develops and updates maintenance procedures and keeps equipment records.
• Provides insights on protective systems buildout across the 1803 territory.
• Ensures alarms and diagnostics monitoring are in place and functioning.
• Recommends procurement of maintenance equipment, tools, parts, and training.
• Travels to various sites to perform tasks and inspect equipment; coordinates contractors when required.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
