Job summary

FirstEnergy Corp. is seeking a field engineer to provide technical support, commissioning, and maintenance for substations up to 500 kV.

The role heavily involves field work (90%+ outside office) at company and customer facilities, with responsibilities spanning testing, commissioning, energization planning, and field problem solving. Qualified candidates hold ABET-accredited engineering degrees and may possess a PE license or FE certificate; relevant experience (2+ years) is required.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited engineering degree required or equivalent.
• PE license or FE certificate preferred; multiple acceptable pathways listed.
• Minimum two years of engineering experience.
• Field engineering for substations up to 500 kV; extensive field work involved.
• Ability to work independently and with multi-disciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe workplace and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Commission and test new substation equipment up to 500 kV.
• Develop energization plans and review test results.
• Provide onsite technical support during preventive and corrective maintenance.
• Assist in maintenance practices for new technologies and modifications.
