Job summary

K&A Power Group in the Boston/Worcester area seeks a Field Construction Manager with substantial field construction expertise in civil and electrical scopes. You will lead day-to-day field activities on substation and underground transmission projects, coordinating with project teams to meet safety, quality, and schedule goals.

The role requires strong leadership, the ability to interpret complex drawings and work packages, and willingness to travel to project sites.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred; extensive directly relevant field experience may substitute for a degree.
• Minimum 5+ years of field construction experience in electrical utility infrastructure.
• Experience with electrical substations construction.
• Experience with underground high-voltage/transmission cable construction and related civil work.
• Knowledge of civil and electrical construction practices for utility projects.
• Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and work packages.
• Ability to evaluate field conditions and make informed technical decisions.
• Knowledge of Massachusetts codes for substation, civil, and electrical work.
• Strong focus on safety, quality control, scheduling, and coordination.
• Strong communication and leadership skills with stakeholders.
• Experience with electric utilities, EPC contractors, or related organizations.
• Experience with brownfield and greenfield substations and energization.
• Familiarity with outage coordination, testing, and commissioning.
• OSHA construction safety training and related certifications.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel in Greater Boston–Worcester area.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day field construction management and oversight for substation and underground transmission projects.
• Manage civil construction activities: site development, excavation, grading, drainage, foundations, duct banks, trenches.
• Oversee electrical construction: substation equipment installation, grounding, conduits, cables, and underground lines.
• Review drawings, specifications, and field conditions; provide practical input.
• Make or support technical field decisions with engineering input for changes.
• Monitor contractor performance, quality, productivity, schedule, and compliance.
• Identify field conflicts, safety concerns, and schedule impacts; drive timely resolution.
• Coordinate interfaces among civil, electrical, transmission, engineering, testing/commissioning, and utility teams.
• Ensure compliance with MA building, electrical, environmental, safety, and utility requirements.
• Participate in meetings, inspections, progress reviews, outage coordination, and project closeout; maintain field docs.
