Job summary

Jefferson County is seeking an experienced Structural Building Inspector to join our Building Safety Division. The ideal candidate has trade experience, knowledge of code-compliant construction, and thorough understanding of permitting and inspection processes.

The role involves inspecting residential, commercial, and industrial structures and communicating findings clearly to contractors and owners. This position follows a traditional five-day workweek with field and office duties, potential

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
• At least 3 years of inspector experience in construction trades.
• Equivalent education/experience combinations may be considered.
• Preferred: 5 years combined experience including 2 years as inspector.
• Certifications: B1 and B2 residential/commercial inspector preferred; ICC certifications encouraged.

Responsibilities

• Conduct field inspections across the County to ensure compliance with codes and permits.
• Review blueprints, diagrams, plans, and construction documents for correctness.
• Explain code requirements and installation standards to contractors, owners, and design professionals.
• Identify code violations and issue correction notices, stop-work orders, and enforcement actions as needed.
• Maintain accurate inspection records, reports, and photographs; testify in court when required.
