Job summary

Bering Straits Professional Services, LLC is seeking a Site Safety and Health Officer to oversee safety on USACE projects in the Springs Lakes, NC area. The role requires implementing safety plans, conducting daily site inspections, and coordinating safety briefings with subcontractors and employees.

The position emphasizes adherence to EM 385-1-1, OSHA standards, and the ability to obtain necessary security credentials for federal facilities. Travel to multiple project sites will be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 5 years of experience in a safety role.
• Current OSHA 30-Hour Construction or General Industry training.
• Minimum of 24 hours of EM 385-1-1 safety-related training.
• Ability to satisfy USACE requirements for SSHO designation.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites.
• Experience with EM 385-1-1, OSHA 29 CFR 1910/1926, and federal safety regulations.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the designated SSHO for USACE projects.
• Implement and administer the project Accident Prevention Plan (APP).
• Maintain a regular presence at project sites and monitor safety compliance.
• Conduct daily safety inspections of work areas, equipment, tools, and materials.
• Identify unsafe conditions and ensure corrective actions are implemented promptly.
• Exercise stop-work authority when imminent danger or safety deficiencies are identified.
• Review Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs) and communicate them to staff before work begins.
• Coordinate daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, and other required briefings.
