Job summary

ESS, Inc. is seeking an experienced Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO) to oversee safety operations for construction activities in Jacksonville, NC. The SSHO will ensure compliance with OSHA, USACE, EM 385-1-1, project specifications, and site safety requirements.

Responsibilities include daily safety Management, inspections, toolbox talks, and coordinating with government/USACE representatives to maintain a safe work environment on-site.

Qualifications

• Must have construction safety experience with knowledge of OSHA and EM 385-1-1.
• USACE, federal, or military construction experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of hazard recognition, inspections, and safety documentation.

Responsibilities

• Manage daily site safety and conduct jobsite inspections.
• Implement and maintain the project APP and AHAs.
• Conduct safety orientations, toolbox talks, and safety meetings.
• Monitor subcontractors, PPE, housekeeping, and safe work practices.
• Oversee high-risk activities including excavation, fall protection, confined space, electrical, crane/rigging, and heavy equipment operations.
• Investigate incidents and near misses and maintain safety documentation.
• Identify hazards and coordinate corrective actions.
• Work directly with project management and government/USACE representatives.
