Job summary

U-SMC is seeking a Site Safety & Health Officer to provide full-time safety oversight on a southeastern U.S. construction project.

The SSHO will lead safety orientation, inspections, and documentation, guiding subcontractors and maintaining safety records to ensure compliance with EM 385-1-1 and OSHA standards. You will enforce safety standards, conduct daily inspections, coordinate with the project team, and maintain safety metrics and reporting.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of DOD construction safety experience (Level IV per EM 385-1-1).
• Current OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification.
• Proficient with MS Office.
• Broad safety discipline competence across construction operations.

Responsibilities

• Provide thorough safety orientation for all project new hires.
• Provide strong, hands-on safety oversight and guidance across the project site.
• Guide subcontractors through preparation of required government safety documentation.
• Enforce all governing and company safety standards using a Behavior-Based Safety approach.
• Conduct daily onsite safety inspections.
• Identify, correct, and document safety deficiencies.
• Conduct initial inspections of equipment prior to use on site.
• Communicate daily with the project team on safety status and concerns.
• Maintain accurate safety recordkeeping, including the AHA matrix.
• Maintain a valid driver’s license and be able to drive as needed for site duties.
• Pass a security background check to obtain post access.
