Job summary

WR Engineering in Chicago is seeking a Field Service Engineer to support automated machinery and industrial equipment at customer sites. The role is field-based with regional and nationwide travel.

You will diagnose electrical, mechanical and control faults, install and commission new equipment, and provide on-site technical support while working closely with customers. Prior field service is preferred but not essential.

Qualifications

  • Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding skills.
  • Experience working with automated industrial machinery.
  • PLC troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience with VFDs, motors, sensors and industrial controls.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Previous Field Service experience is not essential.

Responsibilities

  • Service, troubleshoot and repair automated industrial machinery
  • Diagnose electrical, mechanical and controls faults
  • Carry out preventative and reactive maintenance
  • Install and commission new machinery and equipment
  • Troubleshoot PLC-controlled equipment
  • Work with motors, VFDs, sensors, conveyors, pneumatics and control systems
  • Complete equipment upgrades and modifications
  • Provide technical support directly to customers
  • Travel to customer sites as required

Travel: Regional / Nationwide Travel

We’re working with a growing industrial engineering business looking to add a Field Service Engineer to support automated machinery and industrial equipment at customer sites.

This opportunity would suit an experienced Field Service Engineer or a strong Industrial Maintenance, Controls or Automation Technician looking to move into a field-based position.

The Role
  • Service, troubleshoot and repair automated industrial machinery
  • Diagnose electrical, mechanical and controls faults
  • Carry out preventative and reactive maintenance
  • Install and commission new machinery and equipment
  • Troubleshoot PLC-controlled equipment
  • Work with motors, VFDs, sensors, conveyors, pneumatics and control systems
  • Complete equipment upgrades and modifications
  • Provide technical support directly to customers
  • Travel to customer sites as required

  • Comfortable working independently
  • Strong customer-facing and communication skills
  • Willingness to travel

Previous Field Service experience is not essential.

Candidates currently working as Maintenance Technicians, Controls Technicians, Automation Technicians or Electro-Mechanical Technicians who are interested in moving into Field Service are encouraged to apply.
