Job summary

Ohio CAT is seeking an experienced field service technician to provide immediate on-site support for equipment breakdowns and urgent service needs. The role emphasizes fast diagnostics, temporary repairs, and preventive checks to keep machines running until full repairs can be scheduled.

The ideal candidate will have a 2-year technical program in diesel/power equipment, 5+ years of hands-on repair with diesel or earthmoving equipment, and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 2-year technical program in diesel or power equipment systems.
  • At least 3 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on mechanical repair with diesel, earthmoving, or industrial equipment.
  • Valid driver's license required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site support for equipment breakdowns and urgent service needs.
  • Perform fast diagnostics and temporary repairs to reduce downtime.
  • Conduct electronic and hydraulic system checks.
  • Run fault-code analyses using Caterpillar tools (e.g., CAT ET, CAT Diagnostic software).
  • Apply ECM flash updates and configuration adjustments.
  • Install and setup Product Link or other telematics hardware.
  • Provide immediate status updates and recommendations.
  • Escalate major repairs to shop or field teams when needed.
  • Adhere to all safety procedures and guidelines.

Job Summary
  • Immediate, on-site support for equipment breakdowns or urgent service needs to reduce downtime.
  • Focus on fast diagnostics and temporary repairs that allow machines to keep operating until full repairs can be scheduled.
  • Electronic and hydraulic system checks.
  • Quick fault-code analysis using Product Link, Service Link, Cat ET, CAT Inspect, CAT Interact, and related software/tools.
  • ECM flash updates and configuration adjustments.
  • Installation and setup of Product Link or other telematics hardware
  • Provide immediate status updates and recommendations.
  • Performing Safety Service Letters when applicable
  • Escalate major repairs to the shop or full field service teams when necessary
  • Adhere to all safety procedures, guidelines, and best practices
Competencies
  • Proficient reading and writing skills
  • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude
  • Experienced in computer literacy
  • In-depth knowledge of Caterpillar equipment applications, operations, and functions
  • Skilled in using Caterpillar diagnostic tools (Electronic Technician, Service Information System)
  • Expertise in diagnostic, testing, adjustment, and troubleshooting procedures
  • Welding experience is a plus
Job Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED is required, along with completion of a technical school program (minimum 2 years) focused on diesel or power equipment systems, plus at least 3 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on mechanical repair experience with diesel, earthmoving, or industrial equipment
  • Must have a valid driver's license

Physical Requirements
  • Lifting/Carrying 40 lb. Lift/Carry and 50lb pulling
  • Standing/Sitting Up and down stairs, standing, sitting, and climbing into machines
  • Dexterity Normal
  • Repetitive Motions: Frequent movement requiring hands, wrists, and fingers
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet in office settings and moderate to loud in other situations, with both constant and sudden loud noises possible.
