Job summary

Ohio CAT is seeking a Field Service Technician to deliver on-site support for urgent equipment issues in the Columbus area, using Cat ET, SIS, and related tools to diagnose and repair Caterpillar machines.

The role emphasizes fast diagnostics, temporary repairs, ECM updates, telematics setup, and strict safety compliance. A valid driver’s license and diesel/power systems training are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Requires HS diploma or GED and a 2-year technical program in diesel/power systems.
  • At least 3 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Immediate, on-site support for equipment breakdowns to reduce downtime.
  • Fast diagnostics and temporary repairs to keep machines operating.
  • Electronic and hydraulic system checks.
  • Fault-code analysis using Cat tools (ET, SIS) and related tech.
  • ECM flash updates and configuration adjustments.
  • Install and set up Product Link or other telematics hardware.
  • Provide immediate status updates and recommendations.
  • Escalate major repairs to shop or field service teams as needed.
  • Adhere to safety procedures and best practices.

JOB SUMMARY

As a Field Service Technician, Rapid Response provider. You’ll be at the heart of providing immediate, on‑site support for urgent equipment issues to minimize customer downtime. You’ll use your skills and experience to deliver top‑tier service that keeps our customers moving.

  • Immediate, on‑site support for equipment breakdowns or urgent service needs to reduce downtime.
  • Focus on fast diagnostics and temporary repairs that allow machines to keep operating until full repairs can be scheduled.
  • Electronic and hydraulic system checks.
  • Quick fault‑code analysis using Product Link, Service Link, Cat ET, CAT Inspect, CAT Interact, and related tools.
  • ECM flash updates and configuration adjustments.
  • Installation and setup of Product Link or other telematics hardware
  • Provide immediate status updates and recommendations.
  • Performing Safety Service Letters when applicable
  • Escalate major repairs to the shop or full field service teams when necessary
  • Adhere to all safety procedures, guidelines, and best practices
COMPETENCIES
  • Proficient reading and writing skills
  • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude
  • Experienced in computer literacy
  • In‑depth knowledge of Caterpillar equipment applications, operations, and functions
  • Skilled in using Caterpillar diagnostic tools (Electronic Technician, Service Information System)
  • Expertise in diagnostic, testing, adjustment, and troubleshooting procedures
  • Welding experience is a plus
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or GED is required, along with completion of a technical school program (minimum 2 years) focused on diesel or power equipment systems, plus at least 3 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands‑on mechanical repair experience with diesel, earthmoving, or industrial equipment
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
