Job Purpose

The USEPA has required vehicle exhaust emissions inspections since the 1980s for pollution mitigation and air quality improvement. Opus Inspection is the largest vehicle inspection company in North America. Unique in our portfolio of technologies are remote sensing devices (RSD). RSDs enable vehicle exhaust emissions to be inspected as vehicle drive by on the road ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5kLldvbKMbs ). RSDs are used to screen vehicle emissions so those with very high emissions can be notified to seek pollution-reducing repair. The Environmental Emissions Technician will learn about Opus' patented RSD technology and worldwide footprint, RSD operation and maintenance, and how RSDs have contributed to improving the air through exhaust emissions inspection program for over 3 years.

Job Summary

Driving a company vehicle out in the field throughout Fairfax County and Northern VA in the Field Service and Equipment Operator function. Relies on basic manual and technical skills and works independently under remote supervision. Requires long periods of time alone in remote locations and confined space. Requires heavy lifting (75 lbs+) and manual dexterity.

Schedule:

Monday-Thursday 3am-11:30am

Pay: $25/hour

Duties & Responsibilities

• Daily set up, operation and breakdown of a remote on-road motor vehicle emissions sensor
• Local travel in a mobile laboratory
• Compile and deliver collected emissions data periodically, as instructed.
• Support data processing activities as needed.
• Operate computer software to edit license plate data for RSD records collected.
• Maintain performance and appearance of assigned company vehicles and associated equipment.
• Maintain service log on company vehicle and activity log on data collection.
• Keep personal safety and motorist safety as the priority by following proper safety procedures.
• Follow local codes, and safety procedures, erect proper signage and cones for equipment set up.
• Maintain contact with administrator/supervisor.
• Performs maintenance, repair and calibrations on Remote Sensing equipment.
• Maintain RSD equipment repair documentation.
• Help operators to troubleshoot RSD equipment over the phone or on the road.
• Other duties assigned by administrator/supervisor.

• High level of ability to read and understand equipment and procedure manuals.
• Effectively communicate equipment problems to technical support personnel.
• Good organizational and housekeeping skills.
• Ability to work varied hours, including weekends, alone with minimal supervision

Pay Range

The estimated pay range for this job. Disclosing pay information promotes competitive and equitable pay.
The actual pay rate will depend on the person's qualifications and experience. $25.00 - $25.00
