Job summary

Summit City Steel is seeking a Field Service Technician to diagnose, service, and repair a diverse fleet of construction equipment in the shop and in the field. You’ll join a small in-house maintenance team that handles everything, with the Lead Mechanic coordinating complex tasks.

Independent problem-solving, in-field troubleshooting by phone/video, and direct parts ordering are core to the role. OSHA safety and vehicle upkeep are emphasized.

Qualifications

• 3+ years field service or heavy equipment maintenance experience.
• Strong mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to diagnose and repair aerial lifts, telehandlers, diesel trucks, trailers, welders, generators, compressors, and similar equipment.
• CDL preferred or ability to obtain within 60 days.
• Experience with fleet maintenance software (Fleetio) is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, troubleshoot, service, and repair equipment in the shop or in the field.
• Perform preventive maintenance: oil changes, fluid services, filters, grease, inspections.
• Triage field breakdowns and determine if field-repairable or report needs to scope.
• Order parts directly when needed; purchasing authority up to $1,000; over $1,000 requires approval.
• Document repairs in Fleetio: diagnosis, work performed, parts used, labor hours, cost.
• Communicate equipment status changes to the Lead Mechanic; coordinate with Dispatcher and Fleet Compliance Manager.
