Job summary

Powell is seeking a highly skilled Service Technician to join our Service Division. You will install, maintain, and supervise crews on medium and low voltage switchgear across the US and Canada, with travel up to 85%.

The role emphasizes safety, documentation, and problem solving, supported by training and company resources. The ideal candidate has strong electrical fundamentals, experience in troubleshooting and testing, and the ability to work independently in a demanding environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required with 3+ years in shop or field electrical work.
• Knowledge of ANSI IEEE C37 standards for breakers and switchgear.
• Ability to write complete test reports and project summaries.
• Proficiency in basic electrical theory, Ohm's Law and control circuits.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to safety and quality standards in all tasks.
• Complete site documentation including time sheets and reports.
• Communicate work schedules to Field Operations Scheduler and District Manager.
• Support flexible hours including overtime and weekends.
• Coordinate with project management, customers, vendors and labor.
• Perform switchgear installations and tests (DC/AC).
• Troubleshoot mechanical issues and perform insulation and dielectric tests.
• Inspect vehicles and calibration tools regularly.
• Read plans and diagrams and manage tasks to deadlines.
