Job summary

Haynes Equipment Company is seeking a Field Service Technician to place new equipment into operation and diagnose equipment issues in the municipal water and wastewater sector. You will travel within Oklahoma, perform on-site repairs, calibrations, and maintenance, and coordinate with the Field Service Manager.

Responsibilities include documenting service trips, coordinating with clients, and ensuring timely reporting. Training is provided; safety-sensitive role with physical and field duties.

Qualifications

  • High school or trade school in mechanical/electronic repair required.
  • On-the-job training provided.
  • Experience with relay logic and motor controls helpful.
  • Knowledge of volt meters, mA measurement, and mA signal generation expected.
  • Experience with an Amp Clamp and process instrumentation calibration.

Responsibilities

  • Report status of each service trip to Field Service Manager with time, mileage, hours, and customer details.
  • Meet weekly with Field Service Manager.
  • Verify service times with clients and update as needed.
  • Obtain signed service reports from customers when possible.
  • Advise customers to schedule service and to contact the Service/Parts Department for parts.
  • Obtain daily dispatches from Field Service Manager.
  • Keep office time to essential tasks and meetings.
  • Support company mission, policies, and confidentiality guidelines.
  • Travel daily in assigned territory; perform other duties as required.

Key Duties and essential functions:
  • Report to Field Service Manager the status of each service trip before leaving the service location. Status shall include travel time and mileage, service hours, name of customer contact, parts used or required to complete, if return trip is required, etc.
  • Meet weekly with Field Service Manager.
  • Contact Client to verify expected time of service or notify any change in time of expected service.
  • Obtain a signed service report from Customer with items listed above, if possible.
  • Advise Customer to schedule service and contact you through Office Service Manager rather than directly through you.
  • Advise Customer to obtain parts information through Service/Parts Department rather than directly through you.
  • Obtain daily dispatches from Field Service Manager.
  • Service Technician’s office time should be limited to that required to attend weekly Field Service meeting, turn in time sheets, pickup parts, tools, instruments, etc.

Required Qualifications:
  • High School graduate, Trade school specializing in mechanical and electronic repair or an equivalent combination of education, training or experience.
  • Prior experience not required, on-job training will be provided.
  • Experience/Classroom knowledge relay logic and motor controls
  • Experience/Classroom using a Volt Meter including mA measurement and mA signal generation
  • Experience/Classroom using an Amp Clamp
  • Experience/Classroom programming/calibrating process instruments.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience/Classroom troubleshooting PLC logic or development of PLC logic
  • Experience/Classroom troubleshooting, programming and/or repairing Variable Frequency Drives
  • Mechanical knowledge i.e. Pumps
  • Hydraulic knowledge i.e. liquid/gas process
  • Demonstrate knowledge and expertise of basic mechanical and electrical evaluation and repair.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills: able to work well with a wide range of people.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrate dependability through good attendance and adherence to timelines and schedules.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
  • Sitting for long periods of time; occasional bending, squatting, kneeling, stooping; good finger dexterity and feeling; frequent repetitive motions; talking, hearing, and visual acuity.
  • Frequent lifting (up to 150 pounds equipment, supplies or tools).
  • Normal office and field (outdoors) environment.
  • Daily travel in Oklahoma
  • Some overnight travel up to 3 consecutive nights

This position has been designated as safety-sensitive because the individual performs duties that directly affect the health and safety of the employee, coworkers, customers, and the general public.

These duties may include, but are not limited to:
  • Operate and maintain pumps, valves, and process control systems.
  • Operate DOT-regulated vehicles and heavy equipment (e.g., crane trucks, trailers).
  • Required to comply with FMCSA drug and alcohol testing if operating CDL-class vehicles.
  • Work in confined spaces, trenches, and at heights.
  • Participate in or supervise entry into tanks, manholes, or vaults.
  • Must monitor gas levels, entry permits, and rescue procedures.
  • Handle hazardous chemicals and pressurized systems.
