Job summary

Elgen Staffing represents a global manufacturer seeking a Field Service Technician in Newark, NJ. The role focuses on installing new products, servicing equipment, and providing technical support to customers on-site or remotely as needed.

The candidate will read blueprints, document service history, and travel up to 100% domestically, with occasional international support. A two-year technical degree and hands-on repair experience are required, with CAD/CAM and CAD skills a plus.

Qualifications

  • Two-year technical degree or equivalent training is required.
  • Minimum two years hands-on electronic/assembly repair, CNC machinery repair strongly desired.
  • Valid driver’s license and credit card.
  • Willingness to travel domestically up to 100%.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and internal networks.
  • Experience with BIOS, operating systems, networking; CAD/CAM a plus.
  • Experience using multimeters and oscilloscopes.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in dusty/noisy environments.

Responsibilities

  • Perform field service duties including installations, start-up, functional testing, and customer training.
  • Act as a professional company representative delivering excellent service at customer sites.
  • Read and work with blueprints, drawings, schematics, manuals, and specs.
  • Document machine data and service history.
  • Assist customers with parts identification and ordering.
  • Demonstrate products to support sales when needed.
  • Communicate with regional managers to relay information and manage expectations.
  • Submit weekly service reports and expense communications.
  • Recommend changes based on field activity.
  • Travel domestically up to 100% and occasionally internationally.

Our client, a global manufacturer of precision sheet-metal products, has an immediate need for an experienced Field Service Technician, to join their winning team in Newark.

You will be crucial in ensuring customer satisfaction and maintaining the company’s reputation for excellence. By expertly managing the final steps of product deployment and ongoing maintenance, you ensure that our customers receive top‑notch support and that our products perform optimally, thereby enhancing customer loyalty and driving the company’s success.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform a variety of technical field service duties, including new product installations, equipment start‑up, functional testing, and customer training.
  • Act as a professional company representative, ensuring exceptional customer service at customer locations or in any service support role.
  • Read, understand, and work with blueprints, drawings, schematics, manuals, and other specifications.
  • Document machine data, service history, and quality information.
  • Assist customers with parts identification and ordering.
  • Demonstrate products as necessary to support sales.
  • Communicate with regional managers to ensure customer expectations are met and important information is relayed to the appropriate parties.
  • Maintain prompt communication of expenses and service reports on a weekly basis.
  • Make recommendations for changes and improvements based on field service activities.
  • Travel domestically up to 100% and occasionally internationally to support service areas.
Key Requirements
  • Two-year Technical Associate’s Degree (Mechanical, Electrical, or Laser Technology) or equivalent technical school training and military/industrial experience.
  • Minimum two years of hands‑on electronic/assembly repair experience, with CNC fabrication machinery equipment repair strongly desired.
  • Valid, clean driver’s license and credit card.
  • Willingness to travel domestically up to 100% to provide customer service support.
  • Demonstrated computer skills (Microsoft Office environment, internal network).
  • Experience with computer hardware, BIOS, operating systems, networking, and CAD/CAM is a plus.
  • Experience using multimeters, oscilloscopes, and other electronic and precision mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to lift/move objects up to 50 pounds regularly, with heavier lifting required occasionally.
  • Comfortable working in environments with dust, odor, oil, fumes, and noise.
