Job summary

RL Controls, LLC seeks a Field Service Technician to perform installations, testing, and upgrades on mass transit vehicle systems at customer sites across the country.

You will install and terminate DC low-Voltage wiring, work with hand and power tools, read schematics, and document results while upholding safety standards. Must be able to travel nationally and lift up to 50 lbs.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years field service experience in mass transit.
  • Technical degree preferred; industry certifications are a plus.

Role Overview:

The Field Installation & Service Technician will execute installations and testing for simple to complex vehicle systems, including upgrading equipment (software, hardware, and telecommunications network components). Responsibilities include installing and terminating DC low-voltage power and signal wiring, as well as conduit work.

Qualifications
Experience:
  • 2+ years of field service experience in the mass transit industry (Entry to Mid-level candidates will be considered).
Education
  • Technical degree preferred; industry certifications are a plus.
Skills & Competencies

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • Technical experience in engineering or field service within the mass transit industry.
  • The ability to read, comprehend, and apply technical documentation, specifications, and schematics.
  • Competence with hand and power tools, including calibrated tools and multimeters.
  • Proficiency in wire termination, cabling, conduit work, and working around AC and DC high-voltage systems.
  • Problem-solving skills, adaptability, and the capacity to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Strong communication skills for completing reports and following both written and verbal instructions.
  • Physical ability to:
  • Lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Work at heights up to 25 feet using ladders.
  • Operate in confined spaces, electrical cabinets, and on vehicles up to 16 feet high.
  • Willingness to travel nationally for extended periods (valid driver's license required).
Responsibilities

As a Field Service Technician, your key duties will include:

  • Completing hands-on installations, upgrades, and disassembly of vehicle systems.
  • Performing system testing, integration, and troubleshooting as part of a project team.
  • Conducting site surveys and attending site-specific meetings.
  • Installing and commissioning wired and wireless low-voltage network solutions.
  • Validating network functionality and documenting results.
  • Adhering to OSHA, FRA, and RLC safety and PPE standards.
Preferred Experience
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting wiring diagrams, construction drawings, and schematics.
  • Experience with:
  • Field installation and testing of CCTV, access control, and intrusion detection systems.
  • Axis or other competitive IP camera technologies.
  • Extreme Networks or similar wired and wireless network technologies.
