Job summary

RL Controls is seeking an Electromechanical Technician to execute installations, upgrades, and testing for vehicle systems across the mass transit domain. You will install and terminate DC low-voltage wiring, conduits, and network components, and participate in site surveys and commissioning with a project team.

The role requires 2+ years of field service experience in mass transit; a technical degree is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Experience in field service within mass transit or similar industry.
  • Ability to read and apply technical documentation and schematics.
  • Competence with hand and power tools and calibrated instruments.

Responsibilities

  • Perform hands-on installations, upgrades, and disassembly of vehicle systems.
  • Conduct system testing, integration, and troubleshooting in a team setting.
  • Complete site surveys and participate in site-specific meetings.
  • Install and commission wired and wireless low-voltage network solutions.
  • Validate network functionality and document results.
  • Adhere to OSHA, FRA, and RLC safety standards.

Job Title: Electromechanical Technician

RL Controls, LLC (RLC) is an ISO-certified systems integrator supporting the diverse technical needs of the mass transportation industry. Our primary focus is on system technologies that enable vehicle solutions for shuttle, bus, rail systems, and facilities.

Role Overview

The Electromechanical Technician will execute installations and testing for simple to complex vehicle systems, including upgrading equipment (software, hardware, and telecommunications network components). Responsibilities include installing and terminating DC low-voltage power and signal wiring, as well as conduit work.

Qualifications

Experience

  • 2+ years of field service experience in the mass transit industry (Entry to Mid-level candidates will be considered).

Education

  • Technical degree preferred; industry certifications are a plus.

Skills & Competencies

  • Technical experience in engineering or field service within the mass transit industry.
  • The ability to read, comprehend, and apply technical documentation, specifications, and schematics.
  • Competence with hand and power tools, including calibrated tools and multimeters.
  • Proficiency in wire termination, cabling, conduit work, and working around AC and DC high-voltage systems.
  • Problem-solving skills, adaptability, and the capacity to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Strong communication skills for completing reports and following both written and verbal instructions.
  • Physical ability to:
    • Lift up to 50 lbs.
    • Work at heights up to 25 feet using ladders.
    • Operate in confined spaces, electrical cabinets, and on vehicles up to 16 feet high.
  • Willingness to travel nationally for extended periods (valid driver's license required).
Responsibilities

Preferred Experience
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting wiring diagrams, construction drawings, and schematics.
  • Experience with:
    • Field installation and testing of CCTV, access control, and intrusion detection systems.
    • Axis or other competitive IP camera technologies.
    • Extreme Networks or similar wired and wireless network technologies.
