Job summary

Ohio CAT is seeking a Field Service Technician to deliver immediate on-site support for urgent equipment issues, primarily from a service pickup truck in the Columbus area.

You will perform rapid diagnostics, temporary repairs, and provide status updates while ensuring safety procedures are followed and escalation paths are used as needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED plus a 2‑year technical program in diesel or power equipment systems.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant industry experience.
• Valid driver's license required.

Responsibilities

• Provide immediate, on-site field service support to diagnose and repair equipment to minimize downtime.
• Perform fast diagnostics and temporary repairs to keep machines running until full repairs are scheduled.
• Conduct ECM flash updates and configuration adjustments as needed.
• Install and set up Product Link or other telematics hardware on equipment.
• Escalate major repairs to shop or full field service teams when necessary.
• Adhere to all safety procedures and best practices in the field.

Hours: 7am-3:30pm

JOB SUMMARY:

As a Field Service Technician, Rapid Response provider. You’ll be at the heart of providing immediate, on-site support for urgent equipment issues to minimize customer downtime. You’ll use your skills and experience to deliver top-tier service that keeps our customers moving. You will work in the field from a service pickup truck, servicing and performing:

• Immediate, on-site support for equipment breakdowns or urgent service needs to reduce downtime.
• Focus on fast diagnostics and temporary repairs that allow machines to keep operating until full repairs can be scheduled.
• Electronic and hydraulic system checks.
• Quick fault‑code analysis using Product Link, Service Link, Cat ET, CAT Inspect, CAT Interact, and related tools.
• ECM flash updates and configuration adjustments.
• Installation and setup of Product Link or other telematics hardware
• Provide immediate status updates and recommendations.
• Performing Safety Service Letters when applicable
• Escalate major repairs to the shop or full field service teams when necessary
• Adhere to all safety procedures, guidelines, and best practices

COMPETENCIES:

• Proficient reading and writing skills
• Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude
• Experienced in computer literacy
• In-depth knowledge of Caterpillar equipment applications, operations, and functions
• Skilled in using Caterpillar diagnostic tools (Electronic Technician, Service Information System)
• Expertise in diagnostic, testing, adjustment, and troubleshooting procedures
• Welding experience is a plus

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Diploma or GED is required, along with completion of a technical school program (minimum 2 years) focused on diesel or power equipment systems, plus at least 3 years of relevant industry experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of hands‑on mechanical repair experience with diesel, earthmoving, or industrial equipment
• Must have a valid driver's license
