Job summary

Ohio CAT is seeking a Field Service Technician to diagnose, repair, and maintain Caterpillar machines in the field. You will service dozers, excavators, wheel loaders, and haul trucks, delivering top-tier service that keeps customers moving.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED with a 2-year diesel/power program, plus at least 3 years of hands-on experience and a CDL with the ability to obtain a DOT Medical Card. You will work from a service vehicle and follow safety protocols.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED plus a two-year technical program in diesel or power equipment.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant industry experience.
  • CDL with an acceptable driving record and ability to obtain a DOT Medical Card.

Responsibilities

Job Summary

As a Field Service Technician, you will be at the heart of what we do: diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining Caterpillar machines out in the field. Whether it is a dozer, excavator, wheel loader, or haul truck, you will use your skills and experience to deliver top-tier service that keeps our customers moving. You will work out of a company service truck servicing and performing:

  • Diagnostics and repair on heavy equipment, including Caterpillar engines and drive-train components, electrical and hydraulic systems.
  • Perform routine and complex repairs, inspect and maintain equipment, and rebuild components to ensure optimal performance.
  • Additional duties include servicing Air Conditioning systems, maintaining detailed service records, collaborating with fellow technicians on complex repairs, and adhering to all safety protocols within the shop environment.

  • Strong mechanical and mathematical aptitude
  • Basic computer literacy
  • Familiarity with Caterpillar engine and equipment lines
  • In-depth knowledge of Caterpillar equipment applications, operations, and functions
  • Skilled in using Caterpillar diagnostic tools (Electronic Technician, Service Information System)
  • Expertise in diagnostic, testing, adjustment, and troubleshooting procedures
  • Welding experience is a plus
Job Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED is required, along with completion of a technical school program (minimum 2 years) focused on diesel or power equipment systems, plus at least 3 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in repairing diesel engines, generators, and industrial equipment.
  • Must have a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with an acceptable driving record following Ohio CAT standards and have the ability to obtain a DOT Medical Card if one is not already possessed.

Physical Requirements
  • Lifting/Carrying 40 lb. Lift/Carry and 50lb pulling.
  • Standing and sitting up and downstairs, as well as standing, sitting, and climbing into machines.
  • Dexterity Normal.
  • Repetitive Motions: Frequent movement requiring hands, wrists, and fingers.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet in office settings and moderate to loud in other situations, with both constant and sudden loud noises possible.
