Job summary

Hitachi Energy's field service apprenticeship offers hands-on training in transformer service, maintenance, and diagnostics, supporting grid reliability across the U.S. You'll work with senior technicians, learn vacuum oil processing, and apply safety and quality practices while engaging customers.

Travel up to 85% nationwide, with the chance to build a long-term career in Field Service through mentoring, real-world projects, and exposure to diverse substations and equipment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED plus 2+ years of professional work experience in technical or mechanical fields.
• Military training or experience is considered equivalent and encouraged.
• Valid driver’s license with clean driving record and ability to travel up to 85% nationwide.
• Welding certification or experience preferred for enhanced field capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Execute precision mechanical work in high-voltage electrical substations across diverse regions under senior technicians.
• Learn transformer maintenance, service procedures, and troubleshooting techniques from experienced Field Service Technicians.
• Apply technical, mechanical, or military-acquired skills to real-world field service applications.
• Conduct equipment inspections and diagnostic assessments to support preventive maintenance.
• Assist in servicing and repairing transformer systems using established processes and tools.
• Learn to analyze technical data and apply findings to customer challenges.
• Operate Vacuum Oil Processors (VOPs) and oil handling equipment with training.
• Maintain processing logs and support transformer testing activities.
• Utilize digital tools and software platforms for documentation and site reporting.
• Collaborate with engineering teams and customers to support maintenance strategies.
