Job summary

Hitachi Energy is seeking an Apprentice to join the Field Service team in the United States. You will work with experienced technicians, gaining hands-on training in transformer service, maintenance, and diagnostics while focusing on safety, quality, and customer engagement.

With up to 85% travel nationwide, you’ll build expertise across technical challenges and contribute to maintenance strategies under the guidance of seasoned field professionals.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED plus 2+ years of technical or mechanical work.
• Valid driver’s license with clean record and ability to travel up to 85%.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs., climb ladders and perform demanding tasks outdoors.
• Class A CDL preferred for operating service vehicles.
• Welding certification or experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Execute precision mechanical work in high‑voltage substations under guidance of senior technicians.
• Learn transformer maintenance, service procedures, and troubleshooting techniques.
• Apply technical or military skills to field service applications.
• Conduct inspections and diagnostics to support preventive maintenance.
• Assist in servicing and repairing transformer systems using established processes.
• Analyze technical data and apply findings to customer challenges.
• Operate Vacuum Oil Processors and oil handling equipment with training.
• Maintain logs and support transformer testing activities.
• Use digital tools for site reporting and documentation.
• Collaborate with engineering teams, field staff, and customers to support strategies.
• Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and internal procedures.
