Job summary
Shimadzu Scientific Instruments seeks a Field Service Engineer for Physical Measurements to service, repair, calibrate, and install advanced measurement instruments across the Detroit/Chicago region. You will travel locally and regionally, performing hands-on bench work and field calls while delivering top-notch customer support.
Ideal candidates have a material science or engineering background, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to train customers and staff on instrument operation
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Material Science, Engineering, or related field; or equivalent experience.
- 1+ year field support experience with physical measurement instrumentation (2+ years preferred).
- Strong technical knowledge of physical measurement instruments such as testing machines.
- Excellent communication and customer relations skills.
- Willingness to travel within territory, including overnight stays.
Responsibilities
- Provide daily repair, maintenance, calibration and installation support for physical measurement instruments.
- Perform in-house bench repairs and field service calls with limited supervision.
- Travel locally and regionally to support customer needs.
- Offer technical phone support to customers and field personnel.
- Provide training to customers and internal personnel on instrument operation and maintenance.
- Document all repairs, product failures, and improvements to ensure compliance.
- Assist in developing and executing preventative maintenance procedures.
- Maintain and control repair parts inventory in the assigned region.
