Job summary

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Medical Technology, or related technical discipline; or equivalent military/technical experience.
• 3+ years of field service or engineering experience supporting medical devices, laboratory instrumentation, or analytical equipment.
• Strong knowledge of electrical systems.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical systems.
• Strong knowledge of electronics.
• Strong knowledge of computer hardware.
• Strong knowledge of Windows operating systems.
• Strong knowledge of basic networking concepts.
• Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills.

Job Description:

The Field Engineering Specialist is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and optimizing Roche Diagnostics instrumentation at customer sites. This role serves as a technical expert and trusted partner to laboratories, hospitals, physician offices, and healthcare systems by ensuring maximum instrument uptime and customer satisfaction.

The ideal candidate combines strong electro-mechanical troubleshooting skills with exceptional customer service and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, configure, and validate Roche diagnostic analyzers and laboratory automation systems.
• Perform instrument qualification and verification according to Roche and regulatory standards.
• Train laboratory personnel on basic operation and maintenance procedures.

Preventive Maintenance

• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on diagnostic instrumentation.
• Replace worn components and calibrate equipment to manufacturer specifications.
• Document all maintenance activities in accordance with quality and regulatory requirements.

Technical Troubleshooting & Repair

• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, software, and networking issues.
• Utilize diagnostic tools and remote support resources to resolve complex technical problems.
• Escalate advanced issues to Technical Support or Engineering when necessary.

Customer Support

• Build strong relationships with laboratory managers, pathologists, biomedical engineers, and clinical staff.
• Respond promptly to service requests and minimize customer downtime.
• Provide technical recommendations that improve laboratory workflow and instrument performance.

Documentation & Compliance

• Complete detailed service reports and documentation using field service management systems.
• Ensure all work complies with FDA, ISO, CAP, CLIA, OSHA, and Roche quality standards.
• Maintain accurate records of parts usage, repairs, and customer interactions.

Territory Management

• Manage service schedule across assigned territory.
• Maintain inventory of repair parts and service tools.
• Coordinate travel and prioritize service calls based on customer needs and business impact.

Required Qualifications
