Contegra Construction is seeking a Field Safety Engineer to support field operations on large, complex construction projects in Edwardsville, IL. The role focuses on leading safety efforts, ensuring OSHA and client safety requirements, and promoting a culture of safety on active jobsites.

You will conduct safety meetings, toolbox talks, site inspections, investigations, and corrective actions, while coordinating with subcontractors and maintaining safety documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Safety and Health or equivalent experience.
• BCSP designations such as CHST, ASP, CSP preferred.
• 1–3 years of safety experience in construction or related.
• First Aid/CPR/AED certified.
• OSHA 30-hour construction accreditation.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Procore.

Responsibilities

• Implement the Contegra Construction safety strategy across all jobsites.
• Conduct on-site safety training for employees and subcontractors.
• Perform weekly safety inspections and safety meetings/toolbox talks.
• Act as resource for safety issues to project teams and personnel.
• Review subcontractor JHA and safety policies; coordinate with subs.
• Investigate incidents and provide root cause analyses; maintain safety documentation.

Field Safety Engineer

June 2026 | Contegra Construction is hiring an experienced Field Safety Engineer to support field operations on large, complex construction projects.

This role is ideal for a Safety Specialist who knows how to Lead project safety efforts and promote a culture of safety throughout the jobsite. They will ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and client safety requirements. They will also conduct regular safety meetings, toolbox talks, and jobsite inspections, while identifying and correcting unsafe conditions and behaviors. They will also be responsible for investigating incidents, near misses, and safety concerns, and implementing corrective actions. They will also coordinate safety requirements with subcontractors and suppliers, as well as maintain accurate safety documentation and reporting.

What you’ll do:

• Implementing the Contegra Construction Corporate safety strategy across each of our jobsites.
• Conducting training for Contegra employees on‑site, per job, and on an as needed basis.
• Conducting weekly job‑site safety inspections.
• Conducting safety meetings/toolbox talks.
• Acting as a resource for safety issues/concerns to project team members.
• Conducting orientations for new employees, subcontractors, and any additional site personnel.
• Assisting and review subcontractor daily Job Hazard Analysis (JHA).
• Assisting and review subcontractor safety policies and procedures.
• Identifying project trends and execute proactive safety initiatives to eliminate hazards.
• Reporting all incidents in an effective and timely manner.
• Conducting effective incident investigations and provide Root Cause Analysis reports to on‑site staff and necessary corporate employees.
• Attending pre‑job meetings for project specific operations.
• Collecting and maintaining appropriate documentation for subcontractors.
• Monitoring compliance with all relevant statutory, regulatory, contractual requirements
• Participating in any safety related regulatory inspections.
• Fostering a collaborative team environment focused on safety, quality, and project success.
• Promoting company values, professionalism, and accountability on the project site.

What we’re looking for:

• Bachelor’s degree in Safety and Health or equivalent experience
• Professional Board of Safety Professionals (BCSP) designations such as CHST, ASP, CSP, etc. are preferred.
• 1 to 3 years of safety experience or combination of education/multiple years’ experience in construction, with a working knowledge of safety/environment principles and techniques.
• First Aid/CPR/AED Certified
• OSHA 30‑hour construction accreditation
• OSHA 500 Outreach Trainer is a plus.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Computer skills with familiarity with Microsoft Office and other construction software such as Procore.

What to expect:

• Primarily project site‑based with limited office work.
• Frequent walking, climbing, and movement throughout active construction sites.
• Exposure to varying weather conditions and construction environments.
• Extended hours, weekend work, and travel may be required based on project needs.
• Must be able to comply with all jobsite safety requirements and personal protective equipment (PPE) standards.
• May involve periodic travel to project sites.
• Extended hours or weekend work may be necessary during key project phases.
