Job summary

Contegra Construction Co is seeking a motivated Construction Project Engineer to support the delivery of complex commercial, industrial, manufacturing, distribution, and design-build projects in Illinois and surrounding areas.

You'll work with seasoned project managers and superintendents, gaining hands-on experience from preconstruction through closeout while helping ensure safety, scheduling, budgeting, and quality.

Qualifications

• Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field preferred.
• Internship or 1–3 years of commercial construction or project engineering experience preferred.
• Strong understanding of drawings, specs, and project documentation.
• Excellent organization, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with Procore and Bluebeam is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Support Project Managers through all phases from preconstruction to closeout.
• Coordinate RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, and project documentation.
• Track schedules, procurement, and material deliveries.
• Assist with subcontractor coordination, contract administration, and communications.
• Review drawings, specs, and contract documents for accuracy.
• Participate in meetings with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and teams.
• Monitor progress and help resolve field and administrative issues.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, change orders, pay apps, and cost tracking.
• Coordinate closeout documentation, punch lists, warranties, and turnover packs.
• Visit active jobsites to collaborate with field leadership.

• Participate in project meetings with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and internal teams.
• Monitor project progress and assist in resolving field and administrative issues.

• Excellent organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills.

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering quality work.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with Procore, Bluebeam, or other construction software is a plus.
• A collaborative mindset with a desire to learn from experienced construction professionals.

Work Environment:

This position combines office‑based project coordination with regular visits to active construction sites. Travel between project locations may be required to support project teams, attend meetings, and gain field experience. Occasional extended hours may be necessary during key project milestones.
