Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Relay Technician to perform testing, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of protective relays for transmission and distribution systems. The role is field-based with local and regional travel, offering training and incentives toward NETA certification and professional growth.

Responsibilities include end-to-end relay testing with DOBLE tools, analyzing fault records and event reports, and supporting substation equipment commissioning.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience testing and troubleshooting protective relays.
• Hands-on experience with DOBLE test equipment for relay testing.
• Ability to read and understand relay one-line diagrams, protection schematics, and wiring diagrams.
• Experience with relay protection and end-to-end relay testing in transmission and distribution environments.
• Proficiency in troubleshooting protection and control circuits in substations.
• Willingness and ability to perform local and regional field work with periodic overnight travel.

Responsibilities

• Test, commission, maintain, and troubleshoot protective relays in substations and power systems.
• Conduct end-to-end relay testing utilizing DOBLE test equipment and protection testing software.
• Execute established relay test plans and develop customized test procedures for projects and protection schemes.
• Analyze relay performance, fault records, and event reports to verify operation and identify issues.
• Support commissioning activities involving transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear, and control systems.
• Troubleshoot protection and control circuits in transmission and distribution substations to resolve operational problems.
• Read relay diagrams to plan and execute work accurately.
• Support outages, energization, and system start-up activities to ensure safe operation.
