Job summary

TRC Field Services (FSV) is seeking a Lead Relay Technician to support client teams in commissioning and testing utility substation protection and control systems. You will review drawings, perform troubleshooting, and document test results while coordinating with project stakeholders.

The role requires 5+ years of related experience, willingness to travel, and the ability to work flexible hours including nights and weekends.

Qualifications

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to read and interpret construction/manufacturer drawings and schematics.
• Strong knowledge of electrical protection systems and relay communication.
• Experience with testing and commissioning of medium/high-voltage substation equipment.
• Willingness to travel for extended periods.
• Proficiency with commissioning methods and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate, perform and document commissioning activities for utility substation protection and control systems.
• Review wiring diagrams, schematics, and engineering documents prior to outages.
• Troubleshoot protection and control systems and equipment issues.
• Participate in project meetings and prepare progress and test reports.
• Develop project-specific testing and energization plans and documentation.
• Identify risks and document site risk assessments and safety procedures.
